What thoughts I have of you tonight Liam Cunning, as I hid down by the wharf under the docks as the foghorn blared an early, pre-dawn roll call.
In my wet galoshes and frayed pigtails I went towards the frothing tide, seeing your face in all the dockhands.
What rope do I walk here? So cold it is today
I see my life floating away on the jetsam.
I saw you, Liam Cunning; homeless, cold-hearted, and so terribly lonely.
You were moaning, calling out- Who am I now? What have I done? Are you her, the one I seek?
I wandered from the oceans edge, creeping along the slippery wood planks among the cargo barrels.
We walked together, you and I, on that cheerless, foggy morning
and never did we touch.
Where are we going, Liam Cunning?
I see your commanding arm point somewhere over the boundless horizon.
Shall I go there?
I must meet you, for I feel the distance is breaking me.
Will we meet again on those far away shores? Your arms will be tight and warm, and well both stand completed.
Will we scoff at that all encompassing love, which no human has yet to resist?
Ah my companion, my adventurer, my risk taker
What must you have felt that June morning, as the ships pulled up anchor, and there, on your land, there was no one to lament your loss?
